Bill and Bernadette have three grand children who live within two miles of their home in Timonium. Their grand children were the inspiration for Lazy Day Lawn Chairs. When Bill's job was downsized, they did not want to pick up and move away where Bill could get another "Job" and possibly suffer the same fate. Bernadette demanded Bill to stop looking for a job and find something he enjoyed doing. At the same time she also asked him to either find a use for the wood working equipment that was sitting in their basement or get rid of it. He found something alright! Now they have many more pieces of wood working machinery!
Bill loves to design and make things work. He has a knack for doing this, plus lots of experience. He grew up on the drafting board under the tutelage of "real" mechanical and structural engineers who instilled upon him the concept of making things "Built for Strength". When designing a piece of production equipment a couple of extra tons of steel is very cheap insurance. The same philosophy carries over to their lawn furniture - make it strong!
Two years ago, after trying an engineering consulting business and finding that most of his contacts had retired or would be retiring shortly, Bill came across the lawn chair business. With encouragement from other crafters, his friends and family, Lazy Day Lawn Chairs was born. Knowing marketing and selling is the key to any business; Bill and Bernadette started reading and investigating marketing information, festivals and other avenues of selling their products. They knew that they had a product that practically sold itself. After much consideration, they decided the best business would be to work one-on-one with their customers through craft festivals and other shows. They have learned many things from their marketing and sales experiences and continue to grow from each of these.
Each day Bill designs and creates their unique furniture. After Bernadette comes home from work and fixes supper - she's a great cook and will not let Bill do any but the most mundane cooking tasks - she finishes several pieces of lawn furniture for the next day's assembly schedule. She also looks out over the "Show and Festival" horizon to see which shows and festivals we will attend.
Bill and Bernadette love their business and all of their great customers! They look forward to years of great furniture and great fun!
